The moment we have all been waiting for has arrived. The Grand Opening Celebration for the Elberon Apartments is scheduled for April 12 at 10 a.m., and everyone is invited.
This historic structure has been transformed into 37 one and two bedroom units for seniors 55 and up, through a partnership with Price Hill Will, the Model Group and others. The rehab has taken only 14 months to complete and the place is looking outstanding.
Anyone interested in rental information should e mail Brickstone Properties. You can follow the project on Facebook, too.
A Price Hill pioneer, “Uncle Peter” Stryker, was one of the leaders of the so-called Squirrel Hunters who helped defend the heights of the neighborhood from the threat of attack by Confederate troops during the Civil War. The homeguard defenders manned cannons that were placed on the brow of the hill, ready to fire on the rebel raiders if they attempted to cross the Ohio River. After the war, Price Hill boasted its own Grand Army Post of Civil War veterans with a large membership. The post was named after Captain George B. Whitcomb, a Price Hill native who died during the war.

Newport's popular Bayou Fish House has expanded to Price Hill with a new store at 3108 Price Avenue, in the heart of the new Price Hill Community Entertainment District. The store opened on January 23rd with a Grand Opening celebration on January 31st at 11am.
Bayou features made-to-order fried fish in their signature homemade batter. They're known for their Catch of the Day special, which can be found on their Facebook page daily. Oh, and their cole slaw is legendary.
Owner Grant Gieseler chose Price Hill because of the community enthusiasm and the assistance that the neighborhood offered in making the expansion possible.
They haven't been open long, but the response has been outstanding. Customers have been lining up and the reviews have been great. Stop by today for some great fish. Open for lunch and dinner seven days a week.
Warsaw Avenue was originally a mud road, which was later “paved” with wooden planks to make it more navigable in wet weather. Eventually the toll road, Warsaw Pike, was paved with macadam and the grade of the road was lowered—the earlier turnpike was much steeper than the road is today. Tollgates were located at Warsaw and Grand Avenues, and later at Glenway Avenue and Vaughn Road (now Rosemont Avenue). There were double tollgates at Mueller’s Corner (where Glenway, Cleves Warsaw Pike, and Guerley Road meet). This corner was originally called Gazley’s Corner, named for an early settler, Allen Gazley. When Mueller’s Roadhouse opened at the corner, it became known as Mueller’s Corner; then, when the Prout Building was built in 1928-1929, it became Prout’s Corner, as it is known today

(CINCINNATI) – The Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park’s production of WAR, by Canadian playwright Dennis Foon, will perform at Prospect House, 682 Hawthorne Ave. in Price Hill. The show is open to the
public and will take place on Friday, January 13, 2012, at 7:30 p.m.
Cost is $4 for adults, and $1 for children aged 11 – 18. Call the above telephone numbers to reserve a seat. There will be snacks and a discussion afterward.
WAR examines how aggression and violence permeate youth culture as four young men struggle with the pressures of competitiveness, anger and vulnerability.
According to Playhouse Director of Education Mark Lutwak, “WAR is a powerful and rich play that explores the ways in which boys use warfare as a metaphor for their lives: in sports, with their peers, in academics and in their relationships with others, particularly women. Contemporary ‘manhood training,’ as laid on young boys by popular culture, adults and peers, is wildly out of sorts with the kind of maturity that we expect and need from the our next generation. This play raises important questions that will be discussed long after the performance is over.”
The playwright uses invented language to stand in for harsh slang, creating a poetic and highly theatrical experience.
Performances will include a facilitated talkback to help students articulate and respond to the issues of the play.
CAST: Greg Mallios (Shane), Aram Monisoff (Tommy), Carlos Saldaña (Brad), Ben Sullivan (Andy) and Lormarev C. Jones (Facilitator) from the Playhouse’s Bruce E. Coyle Intern Company will appear in WAR.
Mark Lutwak will direct. Other members of the production team include Veronica Bishop (Set Designer), Chad Phillips (Costume Designer), Sebastian Botzow (Sound Designer), Jonn Baca (Fight Director), Lormarev C. Jones (Choreographer) and Sydney Kuhlman (Stage Manager).
On January 19, 2012, students from Roberts Cincy After School program will have their class projects on display at Warsaw Project Gallery.
The Cincy After School program involved photography and fashion design. Each student created a body of photographs and a finished outfit fabricated from pre-existing garments which they altered and embellished with additional elements by the end of the project. Students began the project with a topic of interest to them as a reference point for the remainder of their work in the program. Themes could include music, popular culture, sports, celebrities, international culture, geography or periods of history, among others. Final student projects consist of their photographs, collage work and actual fashion designs.
Students were given guided writing exercises at the beginning of each unit to prompt creative thinking and research about their chosen reference point. Once students developed a basic level of understanding of their reference point, they were given digital cameras to use during the class session to produce a series of photographs of their immediate surroundings. Their goal in recording and describing their surroundings was to collect visual examples of the various qualities they have identified in their research to date.
Once students developed an adequate design concept, they began sourcing material for final garments from a stock of pre-existing garments and fabric swatches. Students began laying out their designs on tabletops and a limited number of dress forms using safety pins, Velcro or other simple fasteners. Students were led through a series of exercises which required them to experiment with a variety of designs which assisted with developing a final design which best translated the visual qualities they were seeking to represent in their work. As students completed each design variation, they photographed their work to document and reflect on the process. Students produced a final variation of their design work which was photographed on a dress form and potentially on a live model.

It's all part of the 7th Annual Holiday on the Hill (Dec 2-4). This event is packed with entertainment, and if you're someone who likes to give thoughtful, unique gifts (or if you don't want to wrestle your way through mall traffic), you will definitely want to do some shopping here.

Cincinnati City Council has unanimously awarded Price Avenue Community Entertainment District status. This designation will allow restaurants and bars a faster, easier and cheaper way to get liquor licenses with community approval.
This will fast track development along the newly thriving Price Avenue Business District, adding momentum to already impressive growth. Projects going on along this corridor include:
The Incline Village condos and restaurant.
The renovation of Olden View Park, one of the best view parks in Greater Cincinnati.
The total rehab of the Elberon apartments, one of the West Side's most iconic buildings.
The Flats apartments and Gallery.
Bayou Fish House coming to Price Hill.
These projects are welcome additions to an area that includes great anchor institutions like the Queen's Tower, Holy Family Church and School, Corner BLOC Coffee and Cincinnati's most romantic restaurant, Primavista.
Price Hill homeowners are so excited about the neighborhood and their homes that they needed a movie to tell their story. Five families sat down with Price Hill Living to tell us - and you - why they bought a home in Price Hill.
Each family tells about how they looked all over the city, the suburbs or across the river and decided that Price Hill was the place for them. Between the proximity to everything, the schools, the architecture, the value, the sense of community and the neighborhood's green reputation, they found that there's no better place to call home than Price Hill.
Let them tell you themselves why Price Hill Living is more than just a phrase.
The Fall Price Hill Showcase of Homes will take place on Sunday, September 18 from 11am to 3pm. The Showcase is the twice-yearly event where homes for sale in Price Hill hold open houses at the same time. Realtors from agencies all over town list some of the most outstanding and affordable homes for sale in Price Hill.
The Showcase is a great opportunity to see what's out there for sale in a market that is a can't miss for buyers. To find out which houses are open, stop by Price Hill Will (3724 St. Lawrence Ave.) or any participating home to pick up a map - and some refreshements, too! The event is free.

Incline District, is a trio formed of three musicians who write music in Price Hill and Westwood. The band is named after the many Incline cars that used to travel up and down the hills of Cincinnati, and one particularly obvious one that was situated in Price Hill. Members of Incline District include; JW Mitchell, Frederik Kire, and Asher Kirkman. They take pride in the fact that they live and have always lived in a metropolitan city center that supports the arts and its own bustling artistic scene. We interviewed their frontman JW Mitchel.
"In Price Hill we live, commute and work inside a diverse artistic polish that makes cities wonderful and beautiful," says Mitchel. "With Incline District we as musicians try to absorb and showcase that artistic polish and portray our interpretation of that architectural, geographic, and social contrast into our songs." Incline District operates and fronts Cincinnati’s original indie-hipster music scene, however their shows always seem to be attended by a vast cross section of people who simply like the music and who also seem to like being around people who are slightly different from themselves. At most shows one will find doctors, DJs, hipsters, and bankers smoking cigarettes outside the venue with a few leather jacketed punks and the band itself. Many of these groups also find themselves in deep conversation with their parents or relatives unknowingly, "who then attempt to provide us excellent feedback to what we're are doing wrong. One of the benefits of living on the Westside of Cincinnati means ample relative spy resources and ample fixed conversations with pseudo marketers of Incline District as our large families always seem to outnumber the crowds themselves." They play songs in their own style, "which we are attempting to call 'electrified folk garage pop rock with drums' might be too long." "Our shows are worth it as viewers will always find a completely original set of music, lighting effects and featured artists taking part in our small organic version of what makes music and performance interesting; the act of watching something being created that hasn’t been created before and the performance of that in Cincinnati." You can catch up with Incline District on Facebook. Their next show is at Northside Tavern's Fashion Show on April 16th. They will also being playing up in Columbus on June 5th for the Columbus Art and Music Festival.
Although work has already started, the official construction kickoff at the historic Elberon Apartments will be held on February 23 at 10:30. Vice-Mayor Roxanne Qualls, funders and neighborhood dignitaries will be on hand to launch the exciting rehab of this massive project.
